Broken BUFFs - AMARC Valentines Day 1987
Ghostbase
When this photograph was taken in 1987 this silver B-52E had been in storage at AMARC since 1970. Her markings denote the glory days of SAC and she carries the bear's foot Previous | NextAnother snapshot from the AMARC perimeter fence in Feb 1987. Not a great shot 'tis true but it does give an idea of the random abandonment of some of the older B-52s in store at the time. There are no identifying markings on the camo birds however the silver BUFF is wearing the 22nd BMW badge and I suspect is a B-52E serial 56-0634.

From Dave at 2009-11-01 03:38:44 : I likely saw this bird fly, since I live in Sacramento, CA which is where Mather AFB was located. The local drag strip is situated just about half a mile east of the main runway at Mather AFB and when at the races, we could see the B-52's taking off and landing. They were a common sight in the skies around Sacramento back in those days. Mather AFB has since been decomissioned and is primarily a commercial cargo airport now, which makes good use of it's extra long runways.
